Woodland Faery
This piece was commissioned by a co-worker
whose wife collected faeries. This was the first faery in her collection
carved from wood(butternut). What technique to use on the wings bothered
me for a long time. The idea for pierce carving the wings came almost
too late to complete this in time for the Christmas it was meant for.
The client suggested carving her nude, but I opted for a light dress partly
because I was not up to carving nudes yet, and partly because most of
the body proportions came from measuring my older daughter. The pattern
is 100% original, just me and my drawing software.
